UAG/TMG and NIC Teaming

Hi,

Been busy and came across this during a deployment which I thought would be useful to share. If you use one of the fantastic appliances from Celestix to deploy UAG you’ll have Intel 82574L NICs installed, which support teaming.

Normally you plug in and go, as Windows 2008 R2, UAG and TMG are installed. Teaming usually needs to be done before UAG or TMG are installed, but with appliances you can’t do teaming last. To team adapters where UAG and/or TMG are already installed follow these steps:

  1. For each NIC that will part of a team uncheck IPv4, IPv6 and NLB (NLB normally is unchecked, but make sure).
  2. Reboot.
  3. Create the teamed adapter through the driver software.
  4. On the teamed NIC uncheck NLB (this time it will be added).
  5. Reboot.
  6. Apply network configurations to NICs and routes if required.

Enjoy.
