UAG, OWA Address Book and owasl.xap error (KB 2444842).

Hi,

What a difference a letter makes!! Whilst working on another client install, during testing we saw errors in UAG’s web monitor. The error was that a URL was not being recognised and was hitting the default rule. It happened when the user opened a new email in OWA through UAG and then clicked the address book icon.

The KB (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2444842) article in the title of this blog post talks about how to make changes in order to get around the access violation errors when publishing OWA through UAG, I had an issue with one of the rules, in particular the rule numbered 42.

The configurations on the UAG I was working on were already in place, either by service pack or someone having followed this article. The rule is incorrect by one letter, which is why the URL never matches it. The correct URL must be:

/owa(/[a-z0-9._-]+@[a-z0-9.-]+)?[0-9.]+/clientbin/owasl.xap

It may be difficult to spot the difference that a lower case ”I” has been stated where a lower case “L” should have been used in “owasl.xap”. I’ve submitted feedback and hope that Microsoft correct the issue. In the mean time, update ExchangePub2010_Rule42.
